LKAB's iron ore is processed into pellets and sinter fines, which are transported by train to harbours at Narvik and Lulea and to LKAB's steel mill at Lulea (SSAB). LKAB's iron ore production is sold throughout much of the world, with principal customers being European steel mills, as well as steelmakers in North Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

In2017,LKABproduced over 27.2 million ton iron ore products and iron ore pellets accounted for around 83 % of LKAB’s iron ore deliveries. [4] As one of the largest industries in Sweden, operating
Industrialization of the technology being developed through HYBRIT will start in Gällivare, northern Sweden, where the world’s first production plant for fossil-free sponge iron – from feedstock to steel – is being planned. Kiruna owes its existence to the world’s largest iron-ore deposit, 2km into the ground, and the action happens as far as 1545m below the surface. A visit here consists of being bussed to a closed-off section of a mine tunnel, where you can hear mind-blowing stats and view truly giant mining equipment, such as the mills used to crush ore. The most talked-about examples so far are the HYBRIT development project in which SSAB, LKAB and Vattenfall are collaborating on a process to enable the reduction of steel from iron ore using hydrogen instead of carbon, and Northvolt, which will be Europe’s biggest battery factory with a focus on sustainability and recycling. Replacing fossil oil with bio-oil is estimated to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of the pelleting process by up to 40 percent and is one of the alternatives being trialed within the HYBRIT (Hydrogen Breakthrough Ironmaking Technology) initiative (photo courtesy LKAB).
From the very start in 1890, when the At these two centres, and at a third, Malmberget, LKAB operates 33 mills – huge, horizontal ore grinding mills. Iron ore passes through the mill and is gradually Jan 19, 2021 View of the Kiruna city and iron ore mine. LKAB Mekaniska AB focuses on steel construction and machining. Sweden’s LKAB has announced plans to invest significantly in developing carbon-free iron ore. As part of the state-owned miner’s new strategy, which involves “radical changes in the company’s operations and a new position in the market”, it will pump up to 400bn Swedish Krona ($47bn) into its operations over the next 15 to 20 years. Se hela listan på en.wikipedia.org LKAB’s Malmberget (ore mountain) iron ore mine, located at Gällivare, 75km from Kiruna, contains 20 orebodies spread over an underground area of about 5 by 2.5km, of which 10 orebodies are currently being mined.
We mine our iron oxide as the main ore of Iron. LKAB Minerals sells the mineral into different industries and with different (brand) names. When used outside the steel and foundry industry. Iron Oxide is also a commonly used word for hematite or magnetite products.
Most of the output is transported by rail to the ice-free Port of Narvik, a route named the Northern Circuit. A minority of the ore is transported to Luleå on the Southern Circuit. The mine is owned by Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara AB (LKAB), a large Swedish mining company. In 2018 the mine produced 26.9 million tonnes of iron ore.

LKAB produces the world’s first iron ore pellets with fossil-free fuels Posted by Paul Moore on 12th November 2020 LKAB said recently its processing plants have now reached a level at which pellets can be produced with 100% bio-oil instead of coal and petroleum-based oil. LKAB’s plans to reopen the Mertainen mine, outside of Svappavaara, to produce more iron ore. The intention is to resume mine operation in the autumn and build up a stock of crude iron ore. “We are doing this to create a crude-ore buffer for our pelletising plants in Kiruna and Svappavaara,” says Niclas Svanelöv, Section Manager for Mining in Svappavaara.
LKAB mines iron ore both above and below ground, in open-pit mines and underground mines. The mining operation produces several million tonnes of crude ore each year, which is converted into steel – which builds prosperity. Every day, 365 days a year, iron ore equivalent to around six Eiffel Towers (in terms of the amount of steel) is mined in As a global supplier of iron ore products, LKAB generates significant value at many levels.
